Beijing Technology and Business University is one of the earliest Beijing colleges and universities to offer English courses to undergraduates. It started to enroll undergraduates of English major since 1988, and its master program of International Law and Business English is the first second-rate discipline which was set up by the university itself in China. The program is integrated by the disciplines of English language and literature, laws and business management, etc. Moreover, it has distinct application-oriented characteristics. Business English is a newly-added major that is closely related to the economic and social development. It is consistent with the university position, development and planning of Beijing Technology and BusinessUniversity. Moreover, the school of foreign languages has a strong teaching staff for business English major. Now there are 17 professional teachers, including two professors, five associate professors, and ten lecturers, among whom four teachers have doctor's degree. In addition, some foreign teachers with rich teaching experience will be invited each academic year. The professional teachers took over the national social science fund project, humanities and social science research project of the ministry of education and many other provincial and ministerial scientific research projects. Some of their research findings won the international and national scientific research awards, and many monographs, textbooks, teaching reference and translated works of the research findings were published. Business English major aims to cultivate compound and applied professional talents who can meet the need for social and economic development and have humanities quality to deeply master the English knowledge, skills, and relatively rich economic management expertise, meanwhile, they can have the international perspective, cross-cultural communication ability and life-long learning ability. The M.A. in International Legal and Business English features an inter-disciplinary approach to English Language and Literature, Science of Law and Science of Business Administration. With solid linguistic grounding, high humanistic quality, wide range of theoretical knowledge about international law and business, and strong cross-cultural communication skills, graduates in this program can get well-prepared to meet the changing needs of society with creativity, humanistic perspective, global awareness and outstanding communication competence.

MTI (Master of Translation and Interpreting)

 

Master of Translation and Interpreting (the research direction of Legal and Business Translation and Interpreting), which is a convergence of translation, civil and commercial law, international business and other disciplines, has conferred a Master’s Degree since 2014. The core objective of the program aims at cultivating the high-level, application-oriented, professional translation talents with international competitiveness, who have solid basic knowledge and skills in Chinese and English, strong ability of bilingual translation, systematic knowledge in international business law, a broad international horizon, competence in the field of international law and business practice and professional translation, as well as a high humanistic quality and strong pioneering and innovative consciousness. This major has two directions: Master of Translation (the research direction of Legal and Business Translation) and Master of Translation (the research direction of Legal and Business Interpreting). It boasts an outstanding faculty in three majors of Beijing Technology and BusinessUniversity as well as famous tutors in relative institutions, a team of young and middle-aged experts with great social impact and high academic level. Now there are 20 teachers in school, including four professors, twelve associate professors and four lecturers while there are 15 tutors outside school. The hosting organizations for internships include China Daily Website, Beijing Dacheng Law Offices and seven other institutions. For the talent development, the program focuses on the inter-discipline structural optimization, and its creative characteristic, thus it has an unlimited potential and a broad prospect for development. Our graduates will be capable of doing the translation and interpreting jobs in foreign affairs, foreign trade, state-owned enterprises, sole proprietorship, joint venture, judicial branch, education, news agency, tourism and other different fields.

The outstanding faculty in Master of Translation and Interpreting (Legal and Business Translation and Interpreting) has yielded fruitful results in relative teaching and researches and has honored several awards, including BritishAcademy of Social Science Top Talk, the second prize of outstanding achievements from China Academic Social Sciences and Humanities. We take on or have completed over 40 provincial and ministerial-level projects from different institutions, including National Planning Office of Philosophy and Social Science, Humanities and Social Science in Ministry of Education, China Law Society, Ministry of Finance, State Administration for Industry & Commerce of the People’s Republic of China, Development Research Center of the State Council and have published more than 200 high level academic research papers.
